The day we never thought we would arrive is finally here. Toy company Funko will release a Pikachu Pop! Vinyl figure. Funko revealed on its website that the figure will be exclusive to Target stores and release in July. Take a look at the first image of the adorable Electric-type Pokémon in Pop! form in its packaging below. Don’t you just wanna tear it to pieces?
The reason this news is so important is that the Pikachu Pop! Vinyl will be the very first Funko product featuring a licensed Nintendo character. In the past, Funko has described obtaining the rights to Nintendo trademarks as like hunting for the âwhite whaleâ due to the Japanese game publisher’s notoriously reluctant to allow the toy company to make any. products of one of their characters. That wasn’t helped by the fact that during an investor presentation earlier this year, Funko falsely stated that they had obtained the EarthBound license, before quickly pointing out on Twitter that they didn’t know. not if that was correct.
Either way, it looks like Funko must employ a lot of Ishmaels, as they were clearly able to make a deal with Nintendo to allow the Pikachu figure to move forward. Whether or not that means we’ll see more Pop! The vinyl figures of Nintendo characters remain to be seen, but let’s hope this is the start of a great friendship between the two companies. I want my Mario Pop! Vinyl figure, damn it!
