Half of Wii U owners have Mario Kart 8


by Nintendo T2 financial report released today, and (in addition to the Nintendo Directs news) we got more details on the best-selling games for Wii U and 3DS.

To date, Nintendo has sold 10.73 million Wii U consoles, which isn’t great. For comparison, the PlayStation 4 had sold 25.3 million consoles as of July 30, and that’s a year less than the Wii U. But, the company made a profit in the first half, which it didn’t. has not been able to do for five years.

Software sales for the Wii U now stand at 69.05 million units. In other words, every Wii U owner has about six games to go with their console.

The best-selling Wii U game is Mario Kart 8, with 5.87 million units sold. This means that over 50% of console owners have a copy of the popular racing game. Here is the complete list of bestsellers for Wii U:

Compared to the Wii U, the 3DS is still just as impressive. 3DS has sold 54.34 million units to date and 244.86 million games. That’s an average of 4.5 games per 3DS owner. The best-selling title for 3DS is Pokémon X & Y, with 14.15 million units.
