Headcannon says Sonic Origins is “purely a product developed by SEGA”

Headcannon previously tweeted that they were “proud to announce that we have worked with SEGA to recreate Sonic 3 & Knuckles for their upcoming Sonic Origins collection!”. However, in a series on tweets released yesterday, the company said the Sonic Origins compilation is “purely a product developed by SEGA” and that the company has not worked on the collection itself. However, Headcannon is credited with developing the Retro Engine version of Sonic 3 and Knuckles. In a series of tweets on Twitter, Headcannon explained that they were “under contract to build a Retro Engine version of S3&K as a separate project from Sega’s Sonic Origins.” So, while it’s a bit confusing, it looks like SEGA’s in-house development teams took the Retro Engine and tweaked it to their satisfaction, while Headcannon clearly played a vital role in its creation.
