If you’ve been a Nintendo fan for a long time, you might have noticed that after the release of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo ditched the Nintendo Network ID in favor of the Nintendo Account.
Having multiple Nintendo Accounts to track can be confusing. So if you want to know how to consolidate your Nintendo accounts by linking your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account, keep reading to find out how.
What is the difference between a Nintendo Network ID and a Nintendo Account?
A Nintendo Network ID is an account that allows the user to access online services such as the eShop, Miiverse and Wii U Chat on Wii U and 3DS consoles.
A Nintendo Account, on the other hand, is an online account that allows you to use online services such as the eShop and online play on the Nintendo Switch console. A Nintendo Account also allows the user to access the My Nintendo Rewards system.
Why should I link my Nintendo Network ID to my Nintendo Account?
Linking these two accounts makes it easier to transfer funds between them. If you have a lot of money saved in your Nintendo Network ID account, for example, but want to transfer it to use on the Nintendo Switch eShop, you can do so.
It also works the other way around, so you can send funds from your Nintendo Account to your Nintendo Network ID and use it to buy games from the Wii U or 3DS eShops.
This method is currently the only way to load funds to the Wii U or 3DS eShops. From March 2023, Nintendo will close the Wii U and 3DS eShops, so be sure to purchase all your wishlist games for these consoles before then.
