An email account plays an important role in everyone’s daily life. Given the amount of sensitive data it contains, it’s always best to make sure you’ve properly logged out of your account when you have a reason to do so.
In the case of a Gmail account on your iPhone, you may have never logged out before and therefore assume that there is simply a conventional log out button to press when the need arises. However, it is not that simple.
Here’s how to sign out of a Gmail account on your iPhone.
Delete your Gmail account from your iPhone
Yes, you read that right. The only way to successfully sign out of your Gmail account on an iPhone is to delete the account from the device (this will not delete the Gmail account itself).
Also, when you delete your Gmail account, that account is removed from all other Google apps on the iPhone. For example, your account will no longer be connected to applications such as YouTube, Google Maps and Google Drive.
Step 1: Open the Gmail app on your iPhone. Click on your account Profile Picture located at the top right of the screen in the search field.
2nd step: In the window that appears, select the Manage accounts on this device bottom button.
Step 3: Choose the account you want to log out of and click the Delete from this device button. You can be signed in to multiple Gmail accounts, so be sure to select the correct one.
If you don’t want to sign out using the method given above, but still want to disable account access and notifications, tap the blue switch listed next to your Gmail accounts. This will simply remove access to that particular account as long as that toggle is grayed out by tapping on it. Simply click on it to reconnect your account to the iPhone.
