The Power of Intergalactic Conflict carried April in the NPD Group’s latest sales survey.
All sales based on April 3-30 dollar sales, unless otherwise noted; Nintendo does not provide eShop sales data for first-party titles.
A tight month for the hardware race saw the Switch beat out the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 to be the top-selling hardware family by units, although more expensive versions saw the Switch finish third in dollar sales. US sales of the Switch have now surpassed those of the PlayStation 4 to become the fourth best-selling console in NPD tracking history.
For software, there were two big debuts in April for Nintendo consoles: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was April’s best-selling game combined, and was also the best-selling game on all consoles AND Steam . It’s the second bestseller of 2022 so far, behind Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring. Nintendo Switch Sports, a $40 version with two days on sale and no reported digital numbers, still managed to place fifth in the combined chart.
Other Nintendo first-party titles in the top 20: Kirby and the Forgotten Land slipped one spot to 4th place, Mario Kart 8e Deluxe came home to 8th place, Pokemon Legends: Arceus was just behind in 9th up, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate jumped to 14th place, Animal Crossing: New Horizons planted its flag in 16th place, and Mario Party Superstars finished in 18th place. For third-party titles, MLB The Show 22 was 3rd combined (10th on Switch only), Minecraft 11th, and FIFA 22 12th.
