Nintendo Sales Hit 114 Million Consoles Sold Despite 10% Less Sales Expected

Nintendo has announced its most successful console in the world, considering that gamers prefer the device to be their main portable console. This is reflected in the total price of the console, with the Switch registering 114 million copies sold through September 2022. Even with this success, Nintendo predicts a 10% drop in sales for the remainder of 2022 – before March 2023.

Nintendo claimed this was due to weak sales of its Nintendo Switch consoles in the current fiscal year, and the current supply of semiconductors is persistent throughout the year. The number of sales of its console fell by 19.2% in the first six months of the financial year.

Despite the reduction in supply, the first half of the current financial year has been very successful overall. Nintendo announced a 5% increase in net sales to 656.9 billion yen. This is accompanied by an increase in total profit by three centimeters to two230.4 billion yen. This success has been achieved in the back of more than 3 games like Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and on Kirby and Forgotten Land, among others.

The three cheapest Nintendo Switch games were as of September 2022:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 48.41 million.
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons 40.17 million.
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 29.53 million, first edition.
  • The semiconductor shortage problem seemed to have been fixed in the past; in comparison, Nintendo revised its sales forecast by an expected 3.1% increase in sales and a 17.1% increase in profits. The company has high hopes for this figure despite the predicted 10% drop in Nintendo Switch sales. Now that Nintendo is known for its conservative estimates, only time will tell how profitable next year will be.
