Earlier this week a mod was uploaded that removed pride flags in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC. This mod was quickly removed from several sites, but NexusMods went a step further and banned the modder’s account as well. This decision to ban the account of the modder who uploaded the Spider-Man Remastered mod caused controversy throughout the community, with some of them agreeing with the action and some not.
NexusMods Responds to “Stupid Drama”
The uploaded mod for Spider-Man Remastered replaced all Pride flags in the game with the texture of the American flag. NexusMods removed the mod because it violated their policy for Inclusion and Diversity: “If we believe someone is uploading a mod to our site with the intention of being deliberately against inclusion and/or diversity, we will take action against it.” The mod was uploaded using a “sock puppet” account, a dummy account to hide the true identity of the modder. Unfortunately for them, it didn’t work; NexusMods identified the modder and quickly banned the sock puppet account and the modder’s main account due to what they perceived as a trolling attempt. Site users who disagreed with the policy were also encouraged to “delete your account…and move on.”
The account banning of the person who downloaded the Spider-Man Remastered mod has sparked controversy in the modding community. There are many people who support NexusMods’ decision, as the mod was seen as “anti gayand was uploaded “on a platform that explicitly prohibits such content.” There are others who think the mod should have stayed because it was a optional download for a single-player game that didn’t affect anyone other than the user. Either way, the account ban and mod removal are permanent and NexusMods will continue as well.
In other news, a cryptic new teaser tricks gamers into thinking a new Dune game will soon be revealed. Elsewhere, the PGA Tour 2K23 release date, Deluxe Edition and Tiger Woods cover art have been revealed.
